Gary Bernsten is a retired Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) officer who served for over 25 years in the agency's clandestine service. He joined the CIA in 1976 and spent much of his career in overseas field operations, particularly in the Middle East and South Asia. He served as the CIA station chief in Islamabad, Pakistan, during the early 2000s, where he oversaw operations targeting al-Qaeda in Afghanistan.
After retiring from the CIA in 2005, Bernsten became a commentator on national security issues, appearing frequently on television and in print media. He also wrote several books, including "Jawbreaker: The Attack on Bin Laden and Al-Qaeda" and "Hunting the Jackal: A CIA Insider's Account of the War on Terror."
In addition to his work in intelligence and national security, Bernsten has been involved in various business ventures and served on the board of directors of several corporations. He continues to be an advocate for a strong national defense and a vocal critic of American foreign policy toward hostile nations.
